The Big 1% of Greatness

Carpet LandfillAt Progressive, if you’re ready to reclaim the global world with us, we will locally stand behind you – one footstep at a time.

Each year, roughly 2.5 million tons of waste carpet reaches landfills in the U.S., accounting for nearly 3% of overall landfill space. Currently, less than 1% of all carpet is being recycled. We understand it’s simpler to throw something away, especially when it’s easy to do so and it’s perceived as less expensive. However, according to CBT Carpet Recycling/U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, recycling carpet costs roughly the same as hauling to a landfill.

To this end, we have teamed up with carpet recyclers to identify and resolve potential costs and operational challenges thus enabling us to refine and optimize the recycling process. In lieu of going to a landfill, Progressive Flooring reclaims all old carpet tile materials to be recycled. Based off of CARE statistics, every 1,000 yards of carpet recycled saves about 440 gallons of oil, 10,000,000 BTUs of energy, and diverts roughly 4,500 pounds of waste from landfills.

By doing our part, we can keep the earth greener and keep our consciences cleaner.  They say there’s only a 1% difference between goodness and greatness. That big 1% is exactly the effort we put into every project from start to finish, and even after the project is done.
